5 takeaways from Liverpool’s training session as players return despite fresh challenges

Though Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool aren’t quite at full strength, they have welcomed back a few injury uncertainties in time for the Premier League run-in.

Even though they’ve lost a few key players this season, the Reds have kept going and are still in a great position to win the league with 10 games to go. The 2019–20 champions will play their first of three games in a row this coming week on Sunday against Brighton.

Additionally, manager Klopp will depart Anfield at the conclusion of the season, and this is one of his final ten league games in charge. Some of his players returned from the international break, but that doesn’t mean they’ve been immune to injuries in the past week.

However, his team did manage to overcome a couple of scares, so there is some good news. What follows is an analysis by Mirror Football of the most recent training images taken in preparation for this coming weekend.

1. No news on Alisson yet.

The last time Alisson wore a Liverpool shirt was on February 4th. The goalkeeper has missed the last four league games for Liverpool and both international friendlies against Brazil due to a hamstring injury.

It appears that the former Roma number one is still quite a ways off a return, as he was noticeably absent from the most recent training session. The goal is to get it done by the middle of April, which means Caoimhin Kelleher will still be the man in the middle for the Premier League match against Manchester United on April 7th.

2. Preparing to play, Nunez and SalahOn Sunday, who do you think should start for Liverpool? Leave a comment with your thoughts.

Although he missed out on international duty due to what seemed like game-related injuries, he and teammate forward Mohamed Salah—who had just returned to fitness and was also able to sit out Egypt’s games—were both beaming in this week’s training images.

With three goals and an assist in his past four games, the former Benfica star has already scored ten goals in the league this season, ten more than he scored all of last. Klopp will surely be pleased to have options up forward, even without Diogo Jota due to injury.

3. Gravenberch is once again a candidateSummer enrollment The season for Ryan Gravenberch has been a roller coaster. His first goal in the Premier League has eluded him despite some impressive displays, particularly in Europe.

However, his return couldn’t have come at a better moment, what with Thiago, Stefan Bajcetic, and Curtis Jones all down.

four. Questions posed from the left sideAndy Robertson thankfully did not suffer a serious injury while on international service. While the left back’s shoulder injury sustained while on international duty in the fall kept him out for a long, the injury he suffered in the loss to Northern Ireland seems to be less significant.

Also missing was Kostas Tsimikas, who may or may not have been sidelined by an injury. Klopp will have to decide whether to start the 27-year-old Greek international on Sunday after he played 120 minutes for his country in Wednesday’s Euro 2024 play-off loss.
