Victor Wembanyama is in the midst of one of the most outstanding rookie seasons in NBA history, having been picked first overall by the San Antonio Spurs this past June. Wembanyama has responded to coach Gregg Popovich’s increased minutes since the NBA All-Star break by stuffing the stat sheet on a seemingly nightly basis, keeping the Spurs competitive, despite the fact that they remain at the bottom of the Western Conference playoff race.
Wembanyama had one of his quieter outings of the season on Saturday night, as the Spurs were thrashed at home by Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns. On Monday evening, the Spurs will face the Suns again, this time at home. However, based on the most recent reports, Wembanyama may be out of the lineup for that game owing to an injury.
“Spurs say Victor Wembanyama (left ankle sprain) is questionable for tomorrow’s game against the Phoenix Suns,” said Andrew Lopez of ESPN on X, the social media platform that was previously known as Twitter.
Wembanyama did appear to be a little less than his usual totally healthy self on Saturday, though it’s unclear whether this was due to the same ankle problem that may keep him out of the lineup for Monday’s rematch.
