On Sunday afternoon, Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, and the Dallas Mavericks defeated Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets in a nationally televised game from Dallas. The Mavericks were actually trailing late in this one before Doncic hit a clutch three to tie things up with less than 30 seconds to go, and then Irving tossed in a running hook shot with his left hand over Jokic’s outstretched arms, a shot that fell into the net just as time expired to give the Mavericks the epic victory.
Doncic was impressed by what he saw from Irving.
“That’s an incredible shot, man. I could not believe it. I was at the baseline. “I just couldn’t believe it,” Doncic told Grant Afseth of DallasBasketball.com on X, the social networking platform that was previously known as Twitter.
Indeed, Doncic could be seen on the baseline giggling incredulously as Irving’s shot went softly into the net as the clock expired.
The fact that Irving is presently fasting for Ramadan adds to the shot’s impressiveness, considering it was made on an empty stomach.
“I’d be unable to accomplish it. I am amazed. As I already stated, he is unique. “He’s different,” Doncic explained.
The victory over the Nuggets put the Mavericks in a virtual tie with the Sacramento Kings for sixth position in the Western Conference playoff picture. Of course, sixth place is the minimum requirement for clubs to avoid the dreaded “Play-In” competition, where a season’s fate can be decided in just one or two games.
