Striker Erling Haaland responded to the never-ending discussion between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo over who is the GOAT (Greatest of All Time).

Haaland gives the answer to the GOAT battle between Messi and Ronaldo

Ronaldo and Messi have long been fierce competitors at the peak of world football. Following his victory in the 2022 World Cup, many people feel Messi has become the undeniable GOAT. However, Ronaldo followers will always back the player who has won the Golden Ball five times.

Before City’s Champions League match against FC Copenhagen, Haaland appeared to have made his decision. The reporter asked the Norwegian striker, “It really couldn’t have been better for you in your first year at Manchester City.” He did, however, lose to Messi in two big individual honours. Is it feasible that to win those awards, you must wait till Messi retires?

Haaland said, “I’m not sure, good question. He won the World Cup, so I don’t know what to say. “I believe he is the greatest player of all time.” Haaland’s response seems to affirm that Messi is the greatest player of all time, surpassing his great rival Ronaldo.

Haaland finished second to Messi in the race for the 2023 Golden Ball. He also finished second to the Argentine superstar in the battle for FIFA The Best 2023, despite scoring 52 goals across all competitions, including a Premier League record 36 goals.

Despite missing out on the Golden Ball, Haaland earned the Gerd Muller Trophy, which is awarded to Europe’s top striker from the previous season in both club and national team colours.

This season, the Norwegian player has been in excellent form, leading the Premier League Golden Boot race with 18 goals. However, Ollie Watkins (16 goals) and Mohamed Salah (15 goals) are close behind him.

Haaland will join Manchester City in welcoming Copenhagen to Etihad Stadium tomorrow morning (March 7) for the second leg of the Champions League’s 1/8 round. The Blue Man won the first leg 3-1, but Haaland was unable to write his name on the scoreboard. That is why he is so motivated to score in the next encounter.
