Sir Jim Ratcliffe is looking for a bargain deal for Luton star Ross Barkley to replace Casemiro in Manchester United’s midfield

Manchester United’s new regime is planning a surprise move for Luton sensation Ross Barkley.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s manager, and Sir David Brailsford, his assistant, are ardent supporters of Barkley, whom they brought to their other club Nice in France.

Manchester United is targeting Ross Barkley.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is an enormous fan of the 30-year-old.

Barkley previously played for Ineos’ other club, OCG Nice.

Barkley’s outstanding performances for the Hatters have put him on the wish list at Old Trafford as a surprise and inexpensive signing.

Barkley, 30, rose to prominence with Everton as a teenager but struggled at Chelsea.

Nonetheless, he is in command of the Hatters’ midfield and is a major reason why they are outperforming their opponents.

He helped Luton dominate the game against United last week and came close to equalising late on with a header that hit the crossbar.

Barkley could quit Luton if they lose.

And, despite his convoluted contract, there may be a way to sign him for a minimal fee.

The 33-year-old England international has three goals and three assists in 20 Premier League games for Luton this season.

United, who fell 2-1 to Fulham on Saturday, are trying to bolster their midfield.

Casemiro, who is now out of form, is expected to go if a buyer is found.

Sofyan Amrabat will also be released from Fiorentina when his loan period ends.

The Ineos team hinted that they must operate within budget and that adding a top player for a low fee would be beneficial to them.
