Paul Pogba rose to prominence as the world’s most expensive footballer, but his personal life remains shrouded in mystery.
Fassou Antoine Pogba is reading a feature piece about his son, Paul, in Telegraph Sport on Wednesday from his humble flat on the outskirts of Roissy-en-Brie, a town east of Paris.
Memories of Paul’s early years abruptly return.
“He was always curious to know everything, even like a little child,” Fassou recalled of his son.
In Mr. Fassou’s living room hangs a photo of Paul with his younger twin brothers, Mathias and Florentin, both playing for Partick Thistle and St-Etienne, respectively. Another picture captures the trio during Christmas in 1998, seated inside Santa Claus’s cave.
Now 78 years old, Mr. Fassou came to Paris at the age of 30 from Guinea. He worked in the telecommunications industry and is now retired. The elderly man hopes to travel to Manchester to watch Paul play for the team he has returned to. Fassou himself played football in Guinea, and opportunities dwindled when he arrived in Paris.
“He was constantly eager to learn new things. We constantly encouraged Paul to try new things and follow his interests. When we saw the little boy play football for the first time, I saw his technique was excellent. At the time, Paul was four years old and had usually played football with larger kids.Ông Fassou – Cha of Pogba In Mr. Fassou’s living room hangs a photo of Paul with his younger twin brothers, Mathias and Florentin, who play for Partick Thistle and St-Etienne, respectively. “I coached other kids to be able to provide Paul with a match when he was 4, 5, 6 years old,” Mr. Fassou said. “Meanwhile, Paul absorbed everything better and played with older children, including his two elder brothers. Every child at Residence la Renardiere (where the Pogba family initially lived) spent the entire day playing football. As a youth, he knew he wanted to be a professional football player.” For a Renardiere student, there was just one spot in Roissy-en-Brie to organise an 11-a-side football game. Stade Paul Bessuard became the home of US Roissy, a tiny football club that made wishes come true. At Stade Paul Bessuard, I met Nicolas Moressee, 40, US Roissy’s treasurer and coach of the U-17 squad. It’s easy to learn about Pogba’s former student from him. Nicolas Moressee, the head of the US Roissy’s U-17 team in Pogba Did you come here to chat about Paul? “Well, you should enter this room and see everything.” Moressee led me into a small office with three rooms, each containing trophies, an old washing machine, and other items. In the back, there’s a table with light snacks, instant coffee, plastic cups, and framed professional jerseys of the three Pogba brothers, as well as jerseys from other renowned former kids, such as Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, a striker who presently plays for PSV Eindhoven. In the center of the wall hangs one of Pogba’s Juventus jerseys with the message: ‘For the dream club of my youth… Roissy-en-Brie.’ “Paul comes back to visit here frequently,”
Moressee explained. “He was here on a Sunday.” Sunday? A day before he flew to Manchester for his medical examination?Exactly.”What did he do?”What he always does is play football with his mates. Moressee, the club treasurer, is impatiently anticipating positive news from the French Football Association regarding Roissy’s training fee payment following Pogba’s transfer to Manchester United. According to FIFA regulations, any club that trains and develops a player aged 12 and up is entitled to 0.25% of the transfer fee for each year of training provided. Since Paul attended Roissy from the ages of six to thirteen, the club will receive £400,000. For a team with an annual budget of roughly £60,000, this is a big sum.
Roissy may be able to acquire a minibus, new equipment, a washing machine, and pay allowances for away excursions, which are critical resources because few players have parents who can transport them to matches. There is also another location where you may learn about the circumstances influencing Pogba’s development: Residence la Renardiere, which is close to Stade Paul Bessuard. The Pogba brothers grew raised with their mother, Yeo, who had a great impact on all of her sons’ lives.
