Hong Kong fans got angry, Lionel Messi suffered a wave of criticism in Asia

The fact that Messi was present but just sat on the bench in Inter Miami’s friendly match against Hong Kong left home fans immensely upset.

On February 4, Inter Miami played a friendly match away from home against the Hong Kong National Team (China), which they easily won 4-1. The American team did not have Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, two superstar strikers.

This left the home fans considerably unsatisfied, if not enraged. They waited until the second half in the hopes that Inter Miami’s coach would bring M10 onto the field, and then chanted “we want Messi” in response.

After the final whistle, a torrent of boos and yells erupted from the stands. Even Inter Miami president David Beckham had to “suffer” protests during his speech to thank Hong Kong fans.

According to the GOAL report, as it became evident that Messi would not participate, a group of fans at Hong Kong Stadium yelled for a return of their tickets.

Fans took to social media to vent their fury at Inter Miami’s lack of clarification. They believe that if Messi has health concerns and is unable to participate, the club should make an announcement to the supporters.

The authorities in Hong Kong were also displeased that Inter Miami held Messi for 90 minutes of the friendly encounter: “Regarding Messi’s absence from today’s match, the authorities, as well as all football fans, are extremely disappointed with the organizers’ arrangements.” “The organizers owe an explanation to all football fans.”

Obviously, Hong Kong fans have reason to be upset because they spent time and money traveling to the stadium simply to witness Messi play.

Previously, fans went crazy when they learned that Messi and Inter Miami would go to Hong Kong for a friendly encounter. As a greeting, the Argentine legend’s portrait appeared on big billboards, as did the sail of a ship.

Not only did 40,000 match tickets sell out quickly, but so did training tickets and a set of Inter Miami jerseys. However, what Hong Kong supporters ultimately received was disappointment.
