Following the success of his infrequent Twitch livestream, Drake is going beyond music by investing in a “lifestyle, apparel, and esports” company. Drake and Scooter Braun now share ownership of 100 Thieves, a brand backed by Cleveland Cavaliers chairman Dan Gilbert. Braun and the Canadian rapper will serve as strategic advisors as the company expands its competitive games into other titles and builds additional gear.
Drake has been working with the company for quite some time, possibly since his Scorpion press run. There has already been talk of the two working together on apparel. 100 Thieves has teams participating in League of Legends, Call of Duty, and Fortnite, and has completed its Series A investment round with $25 million in total resources. Founder Matt Haag began as a former professional Call of Duty player named Nadeshot, and amassed a 3.1 million YouTube following and more than 2 million Twitter followers before launching the company in 2017.
In other eSports news, Nike has secured an endorsement contract with a League of Legends player.
