Egypt’s chances of participating in the Africa Cup of Nations again are eliminated as Mohamed Salah’s representative reports that the player’s injury is more serious than previously thought and that he would miss three to four weeks. Salah is a top player for Liverpool.
Ramy Abbas Issa stated on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday that “his best chance at participating in the current AFCON is by undergoing intensive rehabilitation in the UK and rejoining the team as soon as he is fit.”
Following Monday’s Africa Cup final group match against Cape Verde, Salah will depart from the rest of the national team and return to Liverpool for recovery, according to a statement released by the Egyptian Football Association. Later on Monday, Egypt and Cape Verde drew 2-2 to move on from their group in second place to the knockout stage.
With what the Egyptian federation later claimed to be a muscle ailment, Salah was substituted out of Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Ghana during the first half of the match on Thursday. It had stated that Salah would miss Egypt’s next two tournament games: the last 16 match, should the Pharaohs advance, and Monday’s last group game.
However, Abbas expressed optimism in this judgment.
The agent said on X, “Mohammed’s injury is more serious than first thought and he will be out for 21-28 days, not 2 games.”
Salah declared on Sunday that, “sooner or later,” he is confident that he will eventually win the Africa Cup.
