Real is expected to secure three points against the team at the bottom of the table in order to secure the top spot. In less than 40 seconds, Kepa was taken by surprise when Largie Ramazani’s close-range shot went through. Real hit back hard after the loss, but they were unable to score additional goals. In the forty-third minute, the home team gave up a second goal as well. As long as Captain Nacho kept making mistakes, Edgar Gonzalez would have a chance to double the lead.
With several noteworthy plays in the second half, it was tense. Real quickly picked up speed and cut Bellingham’s penalty kick scoring short. The home team’s net trembled for the third time six minutes later. But VAR intervened and made “Los Blancos” come back from the dead, rejecting the goal from the opposition. Bellingham was fouled by midfielder Lopy during an assault.
VAR had to intervene once more at minute 67, this time to decide Vinicius’ goal. The Almeria player believed Vinicius had made contact with the ball, but VAR returned a different conclusion. The striker for the home team scored with his shoulder. Real’s 2-2 equalizer was therefore entirely justified.
Half the field was used by Real in the last few minutes. Bellingham kicked Almeria’s goal in the 77th minute, sparking frenzied celebrations. His happiness was short-lived, though, as VAR found that Fran Garcia was not onside when he attempted a cross. Real Madrid’s hopes began to fade as the second half approached the 90+10 minute of injury time, but Dani Carvajal stunned everyone by scoring from close range to make the score 3-2. Bellingham led the first assault with a head assist.
With two more points than Girona, the Royal club achieved a stunning 3-2 comeback to reclaim the top spot in La Liga.
