Following his response to the offensive offside call against Chiefs receiver Kadarius Toney late in the team’s defeat to the Bills last week, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was fined $50,000 by the NFL, according to reports that surfaced on Saturday. Mahomes was questioned on Sunday about whether he will contest the fine.
After Sunday’s victory over the Patriots, Mahomes spoke with PFT over the phone and said, “I honestly don’t even know how that process works.” I believe that this is my first-ever fine. However, I know in my mind that I’ll just let it go and play. I’ll see how that procedure works now that the game is finished and I have another day.
Given that he has accepted full responsibility for his actions, there’s a strong probability he will pay the punishment and move on.
Mahomes remarked, “I knew that I let my emotions get the best of me.” It is your responsibility as a man and a human to accept the results of your actions. And that’s how I was raised all my life. And something was coming, I knew that. I had no idea what to expect when the fine arrived, and at this point, all I can do is go on, grow as a person, and make sure that situation never arises.
I questioned him about if the outcry following the Toney penalty was the result of a season’s worth of disappointments.
