Andre Onana’s Brave AFCON Plan Shattered as Manchester United Goalkeeper Fails to Make Squad Due to a ‘private plane being BLOCKED’

ANDRE ONANA boarded a private plane to Afcon after Manchester United’s 2-2 draw to Tottenham – but failed to make it to the stadium in time after an unforeseen delay.

Less than a day was given to the Red Devils goalkeeper to travel to Cameroon’s tournament opener against Guinea.

After Man Utd’s stalemate with Spurs on Sunday, Andre Onana immediately boarded a private jet. However, his plane was intercepted, shattering his hopes for an opening act in the Africa Cup of Nations. At Old Trafford, Onana participated for United in a 2-2 tie against Tottenham.

To help United in a pivotal game against Spurs, Onana, 27, postponed his flight to meet with his Africa Cup of Nations team.

And while the Red Devils struggled to secure a draw against Ange Postecoglou’s team, his assistance between the sticks was much required.

In the first game Sir Jim Ratcliffe had attended since taking a 25% interest, Erik ten Hag was itching to show off.

Onana departed Old Trafford at precisely 6.30 p.m. on Sunday, knowing that Cameroon’s opening Afcon match was scheduled for 5 p.m. on Monday.

But, according to Manchester Evening News, he experienced a delay because poor weather prevented his private flight.

It’s reported his private jet was blocked in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Monday morning owing to terrible weather conditions in Yamoussoukro, where Cameroon face Guinea.

At the Charles Konan Banny Stadium, Cameroon was playing Guinea; however, Onana was left stranded 150 miles away in Abidjan.

Because of the fog that has covered Yamoussoukro Airport, making it unsafe for planes to land, the keeper tried driving to the stadium.

Instead, Onana did not even make the bench for the match; instead, his distant relative Fabrice Ondoa, a player in the French third division, stood between the posts.

Ondoa conceded after just ten minutes, and Guinea wasted little time in launching their Afcon campaign.

Just five minutes into the second half, however, Frank Magri equalized for Cameroon, bringing Guinea down to ten men moments before the half.

Following a 1-1 draw in their opening game, Cameroon’s Afcon group will also include Senegal and Gambia.

The Central African nation’s side for the tournament will be led by former West Ham and Liverpool player Rigobert Song.

Onana was not present for Cameroon’s pre-championship match against Zambia, but he did help United defeat Wigan 2-0 in the FA Cup third round last week.

Ten Hag now has Altay Bayindir as his backup till Onana completes his international duties.

The summer saw the former Inter Milan player sign a £47.1 million contract to join Old Trafford.

The goalie is racing to get with Cameroon before the start of their tournament.
