In his native Hungary, Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool has been named Sportsperson of the Year.
Dominik Szoboszlai, a football player for Liverpool and the captain of the Hungarian national team, and Mária Érdi, a world-champion sailor, have been selected as the 2023 athletes of the year by the Hungarian Sports Journalists’ Association (MSÚSZ).
At the Opera House on Monday night, at the Athlete of the Year event, the 66th ballot winners were declared.
Similar to the previous year, the men’s soccer team turned in the best performance of the year in traditional team sports, and the men’s fencing team took first place in the individual team sports competition. The national football team’s captain, Marco Rossi, garnered the most votes among the coaches, replicating his victory from the previous year.
Szoboszlai also won the DFB-Pokal with RB Leipzig before to securing a summer transfer to Liverpool.
