Manchester United are reportedly planning a cash-plus-player deal to secure the transfer of Michael Olise from Crystal Palace. The club is considering using Aaron Wan-Bissaka as part of the deal to entice Palace into selling Olise. United’s аttаck has struggled this season, scoring only 22 goals in 20 Premier League matches, and Olise has been identified as a top target to bolster their оffensive capabilities.
Olise, a promising young forward, has made nine appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring five goals and providing one assist. Last season, he recorded two goals and 11 assists in 40 matches. He recently signed a new four-year contract with Palace that includes a release clause that can be activated by interested clubs in the upcoming summer transfer window. While the exact figure of the release clause is not mentioned, it is believed to be significantly higher than the previous £35 million clause in his previous contract.
To reduce the cash amount they would owe Palace, Manchester United is considering offering a package that includes cash and the inclusion of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who Palace has expressed interest in bringing back to the club. United extended Wan-Bissaka’s contract by 12 months last month, keeping him at the club until 2025, which prevents Palace from acquiring him on a free transfer. This move allows United to use Wan-Bissaka as a bargaining chip in their pursuit of Olise. The French under-21 international is also admired by Chelsea, where he previously played at the youth level.
Michael Olise spent seven years at Chelsea’s youth academy before joining Manchester City and later Reading, where he gained recognition. He was named the Championship Young Player of the Year in the 2020-21 season after an impressive campaign with Reading, contributing seven assists and 12 goals. Palace exercised a release clause in his Reading contract, estimated to be around £8 million, to sign him in the summer of 2021. Olise was named Palace’s Players’ Player of the Year last season. Chelsea had previously attempted to sign him for £35 million, but he opted to sign a new contract with Palace instead.
With United extending Wan-Bissaka’s contract, they hope to have an advantage in securing Olise’s signature for a price lower than his release clause.
