As Liverpool prepares to make their move, Kylian Mbappe has already agreed to forego a £69 million loyalty incentive in order to facilitate a more amicable exit from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Mbappe, 25, has recently entered the final six months of his rich PSG deal, which was signed in 2022 after Parc des Princes chiefs successfully resisted considerable interest from Real Madrid. However, at the start of this season, the Ligue 1 champions were furious with Mbappe and barred him from their pre-season tour of Asia after the French superstar wrote to the club informing them that he would not be agreeing to a one-year extension, as PSG had previously expected.
Despite the disagreement, Mbappe was still rewarded with an 80 million euro loyalty bonus after remaining with the club beyond the end of the summer transfer season and being reintegrated into the team of new boss Luis Enrique. Mbappe, on the other hand, has waived the first installment of that bonus and is willing to forego it entirely if he leaves Paris this summer.
According to Caught Offside, the France captain can now sign a pre-contract deal with a new club, and Liverpool seeks to take advantage of his uncertain future. Real Madrid had long been thought to be the most interested party, but various reports this winter have stated that Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are now the frontrunners after prior negotiations about a trade.
“I spoke to Liverpool because it’s my mother’s favorite club,” Mbappe told the Telegraph in 2022. “I’m not sure why; you’ll have to ask her!” It’s a good club, and we’ve known them for five years. I ran into them in Monaco. It’s a large club.”
He hasn’t ruled out staying in Paris, however, as the former Monaco starlet declared after PSG defeated Toulouse 2-0 in the French Super Cup on Wednesday: “I’m extremely motivated for this year.” This is critical.
