Manchester United Reportedly Considering Move for Atalanta’s Ederson in January Transfer Window. According to Goal, Manchester United is showing interest in signing Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta during the upcoming January transfer window. While talks have not yet commenced, the club is said to be evaluating a potential move for the 24-year-old.
The interest in Ederson arises as Erik ten Hag, United’s manager, seeks to reinforce his midfield options due to injuries sustained by Casemiro and Mason Mount. While there is a possibility that both players may return to action in January, Casemiro with a hamstring ιnjury and Mount with a calf problem, United is considering pursuing Ederson as a potential addition to their squad.
Goal also reports that United may submit a formal proposal for Ederson during the transfer window, and the club has already been in contact with the player’s representatives. The situation is expected to progress in the coming days.
Ederson joined Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022 and has since made a significant impact, scoring six goals in 60 appearances across all competitions. He has been a key figure in Atalanta’s strong performance this season, starting in 17 out of 18 Serie A matches and contributing to the team’s current sixth-place standing, just four points off fourth place.
Prior to his move to Italy, Ederson had spells at Brazilian clubs Corinthians, Cruzeiro, and Fortaleza before joining Salernitana. His market value has likely increased since joining Atalanta for £13 million, with his contract set to expire in June 2026.
Manchester United is expected to be active in the upcoming transfer window, with Ten Hag reportedly searching for a new striker to complement Rasmus Hojlund. The club has identified several forwards, including Timo Werner and Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart.
In light of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s recent 25 percent purchаse of the club, Ten Hag has also expressed his desire to retain the right to veto any transfers he does not approve of, a clause that was part of his initial contract when he joined the club.
