TalkSPORT analyst Dean Saunders has called Manchester United’s signing of Jadon Sancho the “worst deal in football history.”
Erik ten Hag expelled the Englishman from his squad in September after the two publicly clashed. Sancho hasn’t played since, and Manchester United now have a major problem on their hands.
Manchester United bought Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 for a fee of £73 million (Sky Sports).
During his time in Germany, the Englishman was one of the top players. He arrived at Old Trafford with a lot of hype, but things haven’t worked out for him for one reason or another.
In 82 appearances for Manchester United over the previous two and a half years, Sancho has 12 goals and six assists in all competitions.
That is simply not acceptable for a player of his caliber, and now that he has a falling out with Erik Ten Hag, Manchester United will have to face a significant loss if they let him leave.
Dean Saunders was chatting about Sancho on talkSPORT today, and he called the trade to Manchester United the “worst deal in football history.”
“I can’t wrap my head around this,” he remarked. I’ll tell you a little story about this, Jadon Sancho. I used to see him every week at Dortmund, tearing full-backs to pieces, coming inside and bending balls in the stanchion, getting on the end of crosses, and playing through balls.
“He joins Manchester United for £75 million, reportedly earning £300,000 per week.” He’s played 80 games, scored seven or eight goals, has few assists, and hasn’t delivered. It’s a puzzle. He is not in the England team.
“You say he has fire in his belly, but Man United has to be the worst deal in football history.” Add up his earnings – he’s currently sitting in his house, playing on his PlayStation. He doesn’t even want to apologize, and even if you don’t mean it, get back out there and resume playing football. Put your differences with Ten Hag behind you; the team and the club need you.
“All he’s said is that he’s not training well.” Is he not allowed to say that, Manchester United manager? You go on Twitter and destroy the manager. Imagine if Alex Ferguson had never been seen at the football club again.
“They’ve lost £70 million and will most likely sell him for £30 million.” As a result, they have lost £45 million. His contract expires in 2027, meaning he is most likely earning £14 million each year. They will most likely lose around £75 million on the transaction. He must depart.”
Jadon Sancho possesses the ability to become one of the top players in the world.
In 137 games with Borussia Dortmund, he scored 50 goals and assisted on 64 others. He was unplayable at times, which is astounding considering he was under the age of 21.
Sancho has had issues at Manchester United, and the situation is now irreversible. A move away in January is in everyone’s best interests, and we expect it to happen.
It’ll be interesting to watch where Sancho goes next. We wouldn’t be surprised if he became a celebrity at his new team.
