Luis Suarez, the new Inter Miami striker, has praised his former Barcelona and current teammate Lionel Messi as the best player in the world.

The two experienced attackers have joined forces for a final swansong in the twilight of his career after a brilliant six-season run at the Camp Nou in the last decade.

Despite being on the wrong side of 30, both Suarez and Messi have had productive club seasons, scoring 21 and 11 goals in all competitions, respectively.

Suarez told the club’s website after rejoining with former Barcelona teammates Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba after joining Inter Miami after a successful season with Gremio this year:

“They are not just friends; they are players who prove in games (why) they are very well known on a global level.”The presence of the top player in the world raises expectations. We know each other well after being with them for many years and accomplishing many things together. We don’t need much time on the pitch to get to know each other.”
