Liverpool’s Frustration Mounts as 34 Shots Fail to Secure Victory Against Manchester United at Anfield

Liverpool Frustrated in Goalless Draw Against Manchester United at Anfield. Liverpool’s hopes of securing a victory were dashed as they settled for a 0-0 draw against Manchester United in a highly anticipated clаsh at Anfield. Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, Jurgen Klopp’s side failed to find the back of the net, while the resilient visitors put up a strong defensive performance.

The home team’s 34 shots marked the highest number of attempts without scoring in a Premier League match since Manchester United’s 38 against Burnley in 2016. It also ranks as the fifth-highest shot count in Premier League history since the 2003-04 season.

United, who had recently suffered a Champions League exit, exhibited a determined display, led by center-back duo Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans. Although Diogo Dalot was sent off for dissent late in the game, the visitors managed to secure a valuable draw.

Liverpool’s performance left much to be desired, especially considering their upcoming match against Arsenal. Their 34 shots lacked a clear-cut opportunity, with many attempts coming from long range or tight angles. Notably, Liverpool has relied on late goals to snаtch wins this season, scoring 14 times in the final 15 minutes of games, just one goal fewer than their total first-half goals (15).

Klopp continues to shape a new version of Liverpool, as evidenced by the inclusion of new midfield trio Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch in this fixture. The manager’s tactical adjustments, including shifting Trent Alexander-Arnold into midfield, aimed to gain an advantage, but it also opened up the game and provided opportunities for both teams.

One of the most intriguing tactical battles was between Andre Onana, United’s goalkeeper, and Liverpool’s intense pressing. Onana opted for longer passes, aiming to bypass Liverpool’s press, although his accuracy was inconsistent. Liverpool’s switch to a 4-2-4 formation, with Alexander-Arnold in midfield, allowed United more space to play passes over the midfield and create chances.

Despite the low expectations surrounding United’s performance, they managed to avoid a humiliating result. However, their attacking display lacked spark and failed to sustain pressure on Liverpool’s defense. While earning a point at Anfield following recent disappointments can be seen as a positive outcome for United, their overall performance was far from spectacular.
