Leandro Paredes, a midfielder for AS Roma, has disclosed that he and his Argentina national team teammates made fun of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho for his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo.
In contrast to the majority of young athletes from that South American nation who grow up idolizing Lionel Messi, Garnacho has never held back when expressing his affection for Ronaldo in public.
Garnacho honored Ronaldo by performing the famous “siuu” celebration after his incredible bicycle kick against Everton.
Arturo Vidal, a former player for Barcelona, AC Milan, and Juventus, later mocked the 18-year-old United winger, saying he wasn’t being himself and that he ruined his moment by imitating a player’s celebration.
Naturally, Ronaldo and Messi have been rivals for nearly 20 years, and many people consider them to be the best football players of their generation.
In March of this year, Garnacho was called up for his first senior Argentina call-up.
One of the seasoned senior players on the Albiceleste team, Paredes, said, “We joked about it with him,” in an interview with DSports (via Goal).
He is really bashful and stays silent. We really drove him crazy, poor man. We also discussed the group’s purpose with him; in some way, we want them to feel at ease and a part of it.
But in this instance, he became quite tense and was unable to speak. However, he did say, “I believe he is his idol; he always followed him closely and plays fairly similarly.”
“So it’s normal, nothing happens,” Paredes continued. He must obviously adapt a little when he joins the national team because we have ours.
Garnacho has made 22 appearances for United this season in all competitions, with one assist and three goals.
He appears to have taken Marcus Rashford’s place in Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup as of right now.
